Durham astrophysicist knighted in King's Birthday Honours

County Durham's King's Birthday Honours list is led by world-renowned astrophysicist Professor Carlos Silvestre Frenk, who has been knighted for services to astrophysics and cosmology, making him the county's most distinguished and internationally recognised recipient this year.

Sir Carlos Frenk

Sir Carlos, a leading figure at Durham University whose work has helped shape modern understanding of the universe, heads a list that also includes Rhiannon Jane Hiles, who receives a CBE for services to museums and the culture and heritage of North East England.

Other honours go to figures working across higher education, children's services, healthcare and public safety, including Northern School of Art principal Dr Martin Raby and firefighter safety specialist Dr Colin Richardson.
