Radio presenter DJ Martin D, real name Martin Dipasupil, has died aged 56. His family confirmed the news in an emotional Facebook tribute, describing their shock and gratitude for the support they have received.
The family said: "With deep sadness, we announce that our Papa, Mr. DJ Martin D, passed away this morning. We are still trying to process this painful loss, but we want to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who has reached out, offered prayers, and extended their sympathy. Your kindness means the world to us during this incredibly difficult time."
Career and health background
DJ Martin D was a recognisable figure on 101.9FM, where he worked as a broadcaster. He began his radio career in 1996. In 2011, he earned the Best Music Radio Jock accolade at the 20th KBP Golden Dove Awards.
He had battled health problems in recent years, including a stroke in July 2018. In November 2023, he was diagnosed with pleural effusion, a condition causing fluid accumulation around the lungs, and became conscious about his diet. No cause of death was shared.
Tributes from fans and colleagues
His fellow DJ and longtime friend Laila Chikadora paid tribute, saying: "The Philippine radio industry mourns the loss of a legend," before branding him "Pilot of the Airwaves."
Emotional tributes poured in from fans and listeners on social media. One mourner wrote: "Rest in paradise, Martin D-one of my favourite radio DJs. I'll miss hearing your voice on the radio. My condolences to his family. RIP." Another recalled: "I remember back in high school, our school service van used to play 101.9 WRR while Martin D was on air; from then on, I was hooked..."
A third fan added: "It was a privilege to listen to Martin D on the radio-from *Request Express* to the *Saturday Top 20 Countdown*. To me, he is the GOAT of WRR 101.9... I'll miss his voice and, of course, his sense of humour."
The family are currently arranging his funeral service and promised to share further details when they can.
