A new poll reveals that Disney Princesses are considered strong role models for young girls, with 98% of respondents agreeing that confidence, kindness, and resilience are essential qualities for navigating the modern world.
Poll Highlights Kindness and Role Models
The survey of 1,250 young women, mums, and grandmas found that 76% of grandmas and 65% of mums rated kindness as the most important quality to pass down to younger generations. Nine in ten agreed that TV shows and films can influence young girls' behaviour, and 94% said it's important for girls to have strong female role models like Disney Princesses.
Nearly eight in ten mums believe Disney Princesses shape young girls' traits, with 26% wanting their daughters to emulate Moana from the film of the same name.
Research Findings and Expert Views
The research, commissioned by The Walt Disney Company EMEA, also found that grandmas associate princesses with courage (36%), kindness (39%), and confident leadership (30%). Respondents saw kindness (71%), confidence (61%), and resilience (50%) as traits evident in Disney Princess characters.
Lee Jury, SVP of marketing for The Walt Disney Company EMEA, said: “Stories have always been a powerful way for children to learn about the world and this research confirms those lessons endure well into adulthood.”
Impact on Behaviour and Generations
The study by OnePoll.com found that 78% of mums engage in Disney-related activities with their children monthly, and 95% have noticed young girls copying behaviours from heroines. Additionally, 81% agreed that traits learned from these characters remain relevant as girls grow up.
Dancer and TV presenter Motsi Mabuse, ambassador for Disney’s World Princess Week, said: “Music and dance have shaped my whole life, so Tiana, who follows her dream with warmth and determination, will always have a special place in my heart.”
