Dirty Sanchez star plans barefoot life in Greece after sobriety

Mathew Pritchard, the 53-year-old Welsh reality TV star known for MTV's Dirty Sanchez, is planning a radically different future after four years of sobriety. Once drinking four bottles of wine a night and taking a handful of morphine and codeine every morning, he now dreams of a barefoot life in Greece, growing his own organic food.

From wild parties to organic cotton

Pritchard, who co-created and starred in Dirty Sanchez, is marking four years of sobriety on October 6, saying it "feels f***ing brilliant." His new plans include a house in Greece with land to grow food, his own gym, a bike for cycling, and another springer spaniel named Ozzy.

He admitted he nearly relapsed when his beloved dog, Lemmy, died in May this year. "Losing Lemmy, it hurt and it still does, I could have hit the bottle again but I didn't," he said. "I never thought I would ever be happy again but today I am."

Rock bottom and recovery

His hedonistic past included choking on his own vomit and urinating on another famous celebrity. During lockdown, at the height of his addictions, he drank IPAs "like they were going out of fashion" and took "handfuls every morning" of morphine, diazepam, and codeine. He also tried hard drugs like heroin.

The breaking point came on October 6, 2022, when he suffered a "breakdown" and went cold turkey, saying it was that or ending up "six feet under." He rebuilt his life with therapy, nutrition, and exercise, and now keeps a "tight circle" of friends to "protect my energy."

New ventures and future plans

Two years into sobriety, Pritchard launched the wellness company Dirty Health with Craig Armstrong, helping others with nutrition, fitness, and food sensitivity testing. Laying out his plans for the next four years, he said aside from Greece, it's an easy answer: "Working for my dreams."
