Corrie: Sarah Platt's Trial Begins in Dramatic New Scenes

Coronation Street has released a dramatic first look at Sarah Platt's upcoming trial, with viewers placed front and centre in court as she discovers her fate after killing Theo Silverton.

The long-awaited court case will be seen in the ITV soap, which is filmed in Salford, next week, and comes months after Sarah was seen confessing to killing the builder, who had subjected her best friend, Todd Grimshaw, to months of abuse.

Background to the Murder

As viewers will recall, the builder's lifeless body was found by a horrified Betsy Swain on the night of her mum, Lisa Swain's, wedding to Carla Connor, which took place on April 23. But it wasn't until a week after the wedding aired that it was confirmed Theo had died after the murder was teased to be him and four other Weatherfield villains.

A murder investigation quickly got underway, with Corrie confirming Theo's husband, Todd, as a suspect, along with his loved ones, George Shuttleworth, Summer Spellman, Christina Boyd, as well as Theo's friend-turned enemy, Gary Windass, and Theo's ex-wife, Danielle Silverton.

Sarah's Confession and Trial

It was eventually revealed to Corrie viewers in June that it wasn't any of the six, as it was Sarah who appeared to deal the blow that sent a drunk Theo tumbling off the scaffolding outside his flat and plummeting to the ground - before she called on her former flame, Gary Windass, for help.

Now, after months behind bars on remand, Sarah will get the chance to fight for her freedom as she tries to convince the jury that she acted in self-defence.

Dramatic Courtroom Scenes

Corrie's new atmospheric promo shows a terrified Sarah in the dock whilst a voiceover is heard calling her a "cold-blooded murderer" and soon, a frightened Sarah says: "I think we need to prepare for the worst."

Speaking about the upcoming scenes, Tina O'Brien said: "Sarah is absolutely terrified, she has been desperate for this day to come but the reality of being brought up from the cells and standing in the dock is overwhelming. As the prosecution case is laid out she is not sure things will go her way."

It was in August that a number of Corrie stars were filming what appeared to be a court case, having been spotted filming on location at Bolton Crown Court, with the likes of Tina spotted alongside her on-screen family and friends.

Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, took to Instagram to share a snap of himself, Tina, Lucy Fallon (Bethany Platt), and Julia Goulding (Shona Platt) heading to Nando's during a filming break. He also posted a selfie of himself, Julia and Lucy as they sat in the court's public gallery. "Platting about," he captioned the post, which ended with a throwback poloroid snap of himself, Helen Worth and Sue Nicholls, famed for playing his mother Gail Platt and grandmother Audrey Roberts in the soap.

The dramatic Coronation Street episodes will air from Wednesday, October 14th, on ITV, ITVX, STV and YouTube.
