Coronation Street's newest villain, Richie Parkinson, played by Nathan Sussex, has made an immediate impact on the cobbles. The character, revealed as Tim Metcalfe's cousin, quickly reconnected with Tim during a boozy night out, leaving before Tim's wife Sally returned home. Richie soon returned after being kicked out by his wife Rachel, and despite Sally's reluctance, he crashed on the sofa again. The next day, Richie planned to head to Liverpool, but Tim encouraged him to reconcile with Rachel—a decision Tim has regretted ever since.
Murder on the Cobbles
After Richie went home, Tim discovered his wallet between the couch cushions and drove to his house, only to find Richie in a blood-splattered shirt and Rachel's dead body in the back room. The shocking twist has left viewers reeling, and now Sussex has hinted that the storyline could extend into the festive season.
Speaking to BBC Wales, Sussex expressed his joy at joining the Coronation Street legacy: 'To be there, like doing a job there, walking down these famous cobbles, honestly, it really gets to you. Corrie means so much to so many people. It is a national institution. We've all grown up on it at some point in our lives.'
Christmas Hook Hinted
Sussex teased that his alter-ego's murderous plotline could be part of Corrie's 2026 Christmas offering. He said, 'When you get a job like this, they kind of tell you the story arc, but, of course, because it's a new storyline, I only know stuff up until a certain period. I've been kind of given sort of a brief that this is what could happen, but I don't know myself. All I know is it's quite a big Christmas hook, and you know the dream, I would love to be in Coronation Street on Christmas Day. While you're tucking into your Ferrero Rochers or your Roses, yes, I'll be on your screens. I don't know. Perhaps. Isn't that the dream?'
With Richie in prison and Rachel dead, Tim and Sally have taken in their daughter Lucy, who witnessed the crime and is left traumatised. Social services have advised against Lucy seeing her father, and the couple are struggling to cope with her emotional state. As the storyline is set to run until Christmas, viewers can expect more twists and turns as the Metcalfes navigate this terrifying new territory.
