Coleen Rooney was moved to tears after reading a handwritten letter from her husband Wayne on the latest episode of Paul C Brunson's podcast, We Need to Talk. In the letter, Wayne praised her achievements and admitted she 'deals with a lot'.
The former Manchester United and England star surprised his wife with the message during her appearance on the show, where she discussed their relationship, being labelled a 'WAG', and the 'Wagatha Christie' case, which she called 'probably the worst time of her life'.
Wayne's letter to Coleen
Reading the letter aloud, Coleen said: "Coleen, this is just a reminder to you, because I know I don't always tell you: I am so proud of what you have achieved in the last couple of years since going back to work. I know it can be tough at times, juggling everything, but you have done it brilliantly."
He continued: "More importantly, I am so grateful and appreciative of everything you do for me and the boys. You deal with a lot to make sure everything is done and in place for us all, which makes our lives so much easier. I love you. We all love you."
Wayne's letter referenced their sons Kai, 16, Klay, 13, Kit, 10, and eight-year-old Cass.
Coleen's emotional response
Visibly emotional, the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here star said: "I am getting, like, a little bit emotional there, but yeah, that is, it's so nice, and I said this, I really say it when you know you are appreciated, and I know I am, but I don't always get told that… My life is my family."
She added: "And I think that goes down to not being always confident in situations where I'm on the front foot, because I always put myself at the back of the line, because I always put them in front of me. And sometimes, just little reminders like that, where you think, you know, you should embrace those moments, and you do deserve to be in that situation."
The Real Rooneys on Disney+
After almost two decades of marriage, Wayne and Coleen, both 40, have allowed cameras into their lives for the 10-episode series The Real Rooneys, which arrived on Disney+ last Thursday (September 24). Disney teased: "With unprecedented access, we follow the family through the highs and lows of married life, raising four lively boys, and supporting eldest son Kai as he pursues his own footballing dream."
The series also shows "surprising personal revelations, career-defining moments, lavish celebrations and unforgettable family holidays" from their Cheshire home to Barbados and the snowy Alps.
Speaking exclusively to the Manchester Evening News ahead of the premiere, Coleen said it was the right time for the childhood sweethearts, married since 2008, to open up their family life. In the opener, she shows their mansion, saying: "This house is everything I've dreamed of. As a little girl, you draw a house with a door in the middle and the same on both sides."
Later, she tells a friend about family stresses, saying: "It's just a bit hard, juggling everything. The house is not happy," and has since explained her comments to the M.E.N.
