Celtic Trust tables three AGM resolutions including Desmond apology demand
Celtic Trust tables three AGM resolutions including apology demand

The Celtic Trust has published three resolutions ahead of the club's AGM, including a demand for an apology for the speech given by Dermot Desmond's son at last year's summit.

The move comes amid a claim that the 2026 meeting could be moved online after heated scenes between shareholders last November.

Resolutions call for strategic plan and security review

The Trust is "calling for Celtic PLC to prepare and publish a 3-5 year strategic plan in order to improve the performance of Celtic as a business and as a team."

They are also "calling for Celtic PLC to review, in cooperation, with elected fan representatives, the Security Department in order to ensure that the safety and well being of supporters are prioritised."

The third resolution referenced Desmond's previous comments and called for the board to "Issue a full and unreserved apology to the shareholders and supporters of Celtic FC for giving a platform at the 2025 AGM to an individual, who holds no role within the governance of Celtic PLC, which he then abused to insult and denigrate our shareholders and our supporters."

It also called on the board to "publicly commit to ensure that such an abuse of the AGM is never allowed to happen again."

Protests escalate after last year's AGM

In 2025, there was booing, a red card display, a walkout, a walk-back-in, a 30-minute suspension and an address from Ross Desmond. Desmond Jr accused fans of 'shameful' and 'bullying' behaviour – while accepting going on the offensive would put a 'target on his back' – before former chairman Peter Lawwell finally pulled the plug on the meeting early.

Tensions have only escalated since then, with supporters taking the protest to Dermot Desmond during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend. The Irishman was competing at the golf event on Saturday at St Andrews, but his round was disrupted by supporters in balaclavas. The club later called out the Celtic Fans Collective in the wake of the incident, who released a statement of the protests alongside videos and pictures of the event.

McAvennie claims AGM could go digital

Parkhead icon Frank McAvennie has claimed that a major shake-up to the format of this year's shareholder showdown is in the works – stating the AGM will be taken online.

Speaking on Let Me Be Frank, McAvennie said: "Let me say a statement right here. I spoke to somebody last night, and they were telling me what’s going to happen. And I believe them. The AGM’s going to be digital now. And I’ll tell you now, because of the last one. It’s going to be digital. There you are, you heard it from me. They don’t want people in the room."

Pressed on where he heard the murmur – given no date has been set and no invites issued to shareholders at this stage, McAvennie went on: "Everywhere. I know a couple of people who’ve not got invitations. Let's see. Celtic can do what they want. That is what I have been told, and it's coming to that. Peter Lawwell heard one loud shout [in 2025] and canned it, and it's going to be the same this time. We will see, it will be interesting."
