Series Two Details
The second season will consist of four half-hour episodes and will air on BBC Three, BBC Northern Ireland, and BBC iPlayer, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Returning cast members include Ryan Dylan, Rian Lennon, Lee R James, and Ele McKenzie, while Coogan joins the ensemble. Other returning performers are Brian Devlin, Owen Colgan, Paul Bazely, and Richard Croxford. New additions to the cast include Nicky Harley, Saorlaoith Brady, Lalor Roddy, Donal O'Hanlon, and Amanda Doherty.
Plot Synopsis
Season two catches up with the Ballymacnoose gang as they attempt to move forward after the events of the previous series. Callum embraces a new hairstyle, Gemma and Lorcan's relationship flourishes, and Jordan has managed to avoid major outbursts for several months. Naturally, chaos ensues as the friends become embroiled in increasingly absurd situations after unexpectedly becoming involved with the legacy of the Irish Potato Famine. The season explores social tensions, personal insecurities, and fierce robot-fighting competitions.
Spin-off Series: Fair Game
The BBC has also confirmed a companion spin-off, Fair Game, from the creators of Funboys. This gaming review series follows Jordan, Callum, Lorcan, and Gemma as they discuss the latest titles, share opinions, and debate gaming's biggest questions. Special guest Roger Craig Smith, the voice behind characters from franchises like Sonic the Hedgehog, Assassin's Creed, and Resident Evil, joins the fun. Viewers can expect chaotic discussions on topics such as whether life-simulation games are suitable for grown men and how certain games compare in storytelling.
Steve Coogan's Comments
Steve Coogan expressed his enthusiasm for working with the cast, stating, "I loved working with them. They are an original voice in comedy and they have bright futures ahead of them. Properly funny fellas. Rian's direction was clear and confident, always on the money. The point is they know what they're doing."
Series one of Funboys is currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
