BBC Breakfast hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay returned to the famous red sofa on Tuesday to deliver the latest headlines. During the programme, they celebrated exciting news about their former colleague Carol Kirkwood, who left the show last month after 28 years.
Carol Kirkwood's NTA Nomination
Carol has been nominated in the National Television Awards longlist for Best TV Presenter, recognising her more than 25 years on television. Jon Kay noted her dedication to umbrellas and wet weather gear, while Sally corrected that Carol would say 28 years. The team wished her good luck.
Documentaries Also Nominated
Two documentaries produced by the BBC Breakfast team were also nominated. Our Girls: The Southport Families features parents of Alice da Silva Aguiar, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Bebe King. Sir Chris Hoy: Cancer, Courage and Me follows the cyclist and his family. Both are in the Authored Documentary category.
BBC Breakfast itself is nominated in the Daytime category. Voting is open at www.nationaltvawards.com ahead of the ceremony in September.
Carol's Departure
Carol announced her departure in January, citing plans to travel and spend time with her husband Steve Randall. Her last show was on April 1, where she gave an emotional farewell, thanking viewers and colleagues for their support over the years.
