BBC Breakfast presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent shared an update on guests who had appeared on the show earlier this year, announcing that Reece and Sophy Finnegan-Knight have welcomed their baby boy.
Hosting the programme on Tuesday (October 6), the presenters noted that the couple, who joined them on the sofa about a month ago while eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby, had shared the news on Instagram last night. Jon said: "We've got a lovely update for you this morning, you might remember about a month ago we were joined on the sofa by Reece and Sophy Finnegan-Knight, who were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their baby."
Pioneering 3D printed scan model
Sally explained: "Reece, who is blind, was one of the first people to experience a 3D printed model of his baby's scan as part of a pioneering, pilot scheme, and we've got an update for you!"
Jon went on: "Last night, the couple shared on Instagram that they have welcomed their baby boy, writing that they are over the moon. So lots and love and many congratulations from everybody at Breakfast to Reece and Sophie." Sally added: "Gorgeous picture," as Jon said: "Lovely."
Couple's heartfelt announcement
Content creators Sophy and Reece, who go by Blind and Blonde online, shared an adorable selfie with their newborn, writing: "We are delighted to announce the arrival of our baby bear!"
They continued: "It's been a roller coaster of emotions the last couple of weeks; have felt overwhelmed, scared, and some days very sleep deprived but we are over the moon with our precious little boy! Sophy didn't have the easiest birth, but the midwives at the hospital could not have been more supportive. Reece being able to navigate the hospital and maintain his independence while supporting Sophy was one of the things we were most worried about, but we are so pleased to say that the staff went above and beyond to help, whether it be guiding between rooms, announcing new people who entered, or describing visual things, they were just brilliant from start to finish and we feel very lucky to have had them with us. We will make a video very soon about newborn life, but for now just going to enjoy our time together as a 3."
Support from followers
Jon replied: "That's fantastic news. Many many congratulations to you all!" After the pair had appeared on BBC Breakfast, Jon had also shared on his Instagram: "Loved this. Sophy and Rees (aka @blindandblonde_ ) joined us @bbcbreakfast to explain how getting a 3D print-out of their unborn baby's scan picture has helped visually-impaired Rees to bond with his son. Due date: anytime!! Good luck guys. Thanks to @guidedogsuk for sharing the story with us, too."
The couple were showered in support from other followers too, with Strictly star Neil Jones writing: "Congratulations, I can't wait to meet him." Another person wrote: "A huge congratulations and I hope you settle in well at home as a family." Someone else said: "Congratulations!! Just the best news and looking forward to watching your journey x."
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
