Paula Badosa has sent a message to her 'haters' after falling to defeat against Coco Gauff in the US Open. The 28-year-old lost Friday's second round match 4-6, 6-7.
Badosa's response to critics
Taking to social media after the loss, Badosa wrote: "Thanks to everyone for all the amazing and positive messages.
"I know this can be a very mean place sometimes, so receiving all this love and support means a lot to me. I'm giving it my all to get back to where I want to be. Step by step, but getting there. As you already know, giving up is never an option. So, see you very soon.
"Thanks to all my unconditional fans. Love you.
"And to the haters, the ones who doubt me, criticize me or enjoy seeing me struggle… thank you. You only remind me how much I want to prove myself right. So yeah, love you too."
Gauff admits nerves
Following the win, Gauff admitted that she was nervous after seeing the draw. "Paula is a tough player," she said.
"I feel like I had the lead but there wasn't too much I did wrong. She stepped it up. I'm really happy to be through today.
"I saw the draw. Definitely not someone you want to play in the 2nd round. Former number two in the world. Great competitor.
"I think I need matches like this to build my confidence. I'm happy with how I managed today. There was a bit of nerves."
Next round opponent
The victory booked Gauff's place in the third round, where she beat another Spanish player in Cristina Bucsa over two sets (3-6, 4-6). She is next back in action when she takes on fellow American Iva Jovic in the round of 16 stage.
