England's most infamous fan, Astrid Wett, has followed through on an online challenge by flying two fans out to the World Cup in the United States. The Chelsea and England superfan, known for her provocative online persona, initially joked about taking a supporter with her but faced widespread skepticism. After declaring on social media platform X that she would do it, she not only took one fan but two, covering all expenses.
From Challenge to Reality
Wett, who gained notoriety during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, had been watching from afar despite expectations she would be among the first to travel. Last week, she told the Daily Star she was heading out as soon as possible and then challenged fans online. The response was overwhelming, with many doubting her sincerity. However, Wett proved them wrong by selecting Will Roxby and Oliver Bowering as her companions.
The lucky winners flew to the US on 25 June 2026, with Wett following shortly after. The trio met up in New York and have already been filming viral dance videos in Times Square. Wett bought each of them an England shirt and shared her excitement about the journey.
Exclusive Interview with Astrid Wett
Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star just before meeting the pair, Wett explained: “The reason why I wanted to fly someone out is because I originally made a joke about taking someone out and I had so many messages saying 'all you girls say you're going to do stuff and never do'. So here I am, actually doing it – I originally only wanted to fly one person out with me but when I contacted Will he was adamant they came as a pair. I'm looking forward to meeting them, I’ve bought them a shirt each and I’m looking forward to sharing the journey with them hopefully to the finals.”
Winners' Perspective
Will Roxby, upon arriving in the US, shared his amazement: “I’ve always wanted to see England play live, and the fact it was taking place in America was the cherry on top. The day before we found out we’d won, my friend and I were applying for jobs in Australia with plans to work in the coal mines. After four months of travelling the world, our bank accounts were running low, so we thought our travelling adventure was coming to an end. Then, out of nowhere, this opportunity came along at the perfect time. It took us a few days to get our heads around the fact we were actually about to go on this incredible trip. We had so many thoughts running through our minds. Was it a scam? Would Astrid actually turn up? But as soon as the money landed in our account, we knew it was real and we were absolutely buzzing!”
Oliver Bowering echoed the sentiment: “I’ve known Astrid for fourish days now and I think she's a lovely girl and obviously very generous if she is willing to give away a trip of this size to not just one but two people. Our time will be spent supporting England, interacting with fans from all over the world and just simply enjoying the atmosphere in America during this time.”
Impact and Expectations
The trio's adventure has already generated significant online buzz, with fans eager to see if Wett's presence will bring luck to the England team. With the World Cup underway, all eyes are on this unlikely group as they navigate the tournament together. Wett's decision to honor her online pledge has turned a skeptical challenge into a heartwarming story of generosity and fandom.
