Prestigious Golden Rose Award Bestowed Upon Netflix Drama
The Rose d'Or Awards has announced that its most coveted honour, the Golden Rose, will be presented to the acclaimed Netflix drama 'Adolescence'. This marks the latest in a string of accolades for the hard-hitting series, which recently achieved a historic sweep at the Emmy Awards.
A Drama That Transcends Genre Expectations
The Golden Rose is awarded to a programme that makes an exceptional contribution, going far beyond the normal expectations of its genre to become a significant part of national and international discourse. 'Adolescence' has also been named a finalist in the Drama category for the 64th Rose d'Or Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in global television.
Mark Rowland, Chair of the Rose d'Or Awards, praised the series, stating: 'Adolescence exemplifies the values of this special Golden Rose award - outstanding programme-making that changes the way people think about a subject.' He added, 'Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham have created a work of true emotional and cultural impact, and we are thrilled to recognise their achievement at this year's Rose d'Or Awards.'
The ceremony will take place in London on December 1, with writer Jack Thorne scheduled to attend.
Record-Breaking Success and Global Impact
'Adolescence', which tells the story of a boy accused of murder after discovering 'incel' culture online, has resonated powerfully with audiences worldwide. The series has averaged approximately 45 million views per month, becoming essential viewing for both parents and teenagers.
Its success was further cemented at a glittering Emmy ceremony in Los Angeles, where 15-year-old star Owen Cooper made history. The Warrington-born teenager became the youngest-ever male Emmy winner, securing the Best Supporting Actor award for his role as Jamie Miller. Remarkably, the series was filmed when Cooper was just 14 years old.
The show's Emmy triumph was comprehensive, winning a total of eight awards, including the top prize for Best Limited Series. Star Stephen Graham won in both the acting and writing categories, the latter shared with co-creator Jack Thorne. Further awards included Best Supporting Actress for Erin Doherty and a directing win for Philip Barantini.
Previous distinguished recipients of the Golden Rose award include the drama 'Chernobyl' in 2019 and the ITV documentary 'Storming the Capitol: The Inside Story' in 2021, placing 'Adolescence' in esteemed company.
