Work colleagues discover they are long-lost siblings on This Morning

Two work colleagues who became best friends at Manchester Airport discovered they were actually long-lost siblings, in a story shared on This Morning on Tuesday, 11 August. Hosts Andi Peters and Rochelle Humes spoke to guests Dave Green and Andrea Urmston, who recounted their incredible family reunion.

Chance Conversation Reveals Hidden Connection

Dave and Andrea formed an instant bond after meeting at Manchester Airport, where they became best friends. However, it wasn't until two years later that they learned they were not just colleagues but brother and sister. The revelation came during a conversation about fostering and adoption, when Andrea learnt that Dave was adopted—something that had never come up in their two years of friendship.

Dave recalled the moment Andrea mentioned she had a brother they had been searching for over 30 years. He said: "Then she [Andrea] said 'I've got a brother somewhere, we've been looking for him for 30 years'." When Andrea said her brother's name was Stuart, Dave revealed: "I said my name was Stuart, when I was adopted Stuart Proudlove, and then she pretty much screamed on the phone 'Oh my gosh that was his name!'", admitting he found it hard to process.

Emotional Reunion and a Promise Kept

Andrea immediately called her mother, saying: "I said 'mum, I think I found Stuart, your Stuart'." After confirming Dave's date of birth and birth hospital matched her adopted brother's, the two met up within minutes, sharing a "long emotional hug" before rushing to Andrea's mum's house. In another incredible connection, Dave used to drive buses and one of his routes went past the house.

Dave described the emotional moment: "And then when we got to the house, obviously, met mum, very emotional and again, the most emotional part of it for me was I didn't know this at the time but I was hugging my birth mum and she stood at the back sort of giving us our time." He added that his mother said to Andrea: "You kept your promise!", referencing a promise Andrea had made as a child.

Life-Changing Discovery

Andrea emotionally explained: "I grew up as an only child and I didn't think it was fair that all my cousins had brothers and sisters and so my mum told me when I was six that I actually had a brother out there and I wanted to go and call for him and play with him and she tried so hard to find him." She broke down in tears as she recalled her mother's distress over not finding him, adding: "I promised her that I would find him for her."

Dave said of reuniting with his family: "It's life-changing for us both I wouldn't spend a day without her", to which Andrea called him her "best friend". This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV X.
