Wedding guest left starving after food shortage for 200 guests

A wedding guest has described how the reception turned chaotic after the couple reportedly ran out of food for more than 200 attendees. One woman fainted from hunger and was taken to hospital.

Guests left scrambling for food

The guest, who shared her experience on Reddit, said the wedding lasted from 3pm until midnight and was meant to include dinner along with numerous appetisers. She and her husband had only a light lunch beforehand, expecting a full meal later.

However, it soon became clear there would not be enough food for everyone. She said: "The first sign of trouble was when the waiters only brought out one or two trays of appetisers every 15 minutes or so to serve over 200 guests."

Chaos and 'sharp elbows'

As the evening went on, hungry guests gathered near the kitchen to grab whatever food they could find. Younger and more agile guests began "swarming the waiters", meaning older guests often missed out.

She said: "The guests started getting hangry and were practically fighting to get an occasional morsel of food. Sharp elbows were thrown!"

Dinner cancelled due to cost

When she asked the bride's mother about dinner, she was told the meal had become too expensive, so the couple served only appetisers. The bride's mother assured her there would be plenty, but the guest said that promise fell short of reality.

By around 7pm, the woman, her husband and about 30 other guests left to a nearby pizza restaurant. Word spread, and soon more guests followed. She recalled "gobbling up rather mediocre pizza like starving wolverines".

Upon returning, the bride's mother "tartly informed" them their departure had been rude.

Grandmother taken to hospital

Later that evening, the groom's grandmother fainted from hunger and was taken to hospital by ambulance. She made a full recovery after several hours in A&E.

The woman said: "I felt we should have all gotten T-shirts saying that we'd survived the nearly food-less reception."

This incident follows another wedding disaster shared on Reddit, where a groom reportedly discovered his bride had been sexting a colleague throughout their big day.
