Veterinarian Amir The Vet has gone viral on social media after revealing the one common cat breed that makes him stop in his tracks during a working day. In a tongue-in-cheek video, the animal expert showed his reaction to different types of cats entering his clinic, but it was the Persian cat that prompted a dramatic, fearful response. The video has divided cat owners, with some defending their Persians and others admitting the breed can be challenging.
Amir's Reactions to Common Cats
In the video, Amir first encountered a tabby cat and remained completely calm. Tabbies, which are a coat pattern rather than a breed, are often described as friendly and adaptable. Next came an orange cat, and again the vet showed no concern, despite the internet's reputation of ginger cats being chaotic. However, when the breed "Persian" was mentioned, Amir jokingly backed away in mock terror, suggesting they are the only cats that truly make him nervous.
Owners Defend Their Persians
The video quickly racked up comments from cat owners, especially those with Persians. One user joked, "I don't know why you're worried about the orange babies, it's the Tortie Queens who are the ones not to play with." Another wrote, "Waiiiiit but my Persian is so sweet!! Her neurologist wrote 'very gentle and adorable' in the notes." A third owner said, "I have two Persians. They are the best behaved at the vets." However, one admitted, "As the owner of two senior rescue Persians, one of which needs sedated to be handled, I apologise!"
Persian Cat Care Challenges
Persian cats are known for their luxurious long coats and flat faces, and they are typically calm and affectionate. However, their distinctive appearance comes with extra care needs, including daily grooming and a higher risk of eye, breathing, and dental problems. Vets say a cat's behaviour during an appointment often depends more on its personality and previous experiences than its breed, but Persians can be more prone to stress-related reactions due to their health issues.
