Tesco Lasagne Ready Meals Taste Test: Only One Worth Buying
Tesco Lasagne Taste Test: Only One Worth Buying

Angela Patrone, Senior Lifestyle Reporter, tested every Tesco own brand lasagne ready meal to find the best one. The vegetable lasagne emerged as the clear winner with a score of 9/10, while the Tesco Finest Lasagne Al Forno scored just 3/10.

The Contenders

Patrone collected all Tesco own brand lasagnes, both fresh and frozen, including the cheapest and most expensive options. She tasted six varieties: Tesco Finest Lasagne Al Forno (£4.50), Tesco Beef Lasagne (frozen, £2), Hearty Food Co. Lasagne (£2.20), Tesco Beef Lasagne (chilled, £3.50), Tesco Finest Beef Lasagne (frozen, £3.50), and Tesco Vegetable Lasagne (£3.50).

Disappointing Finest

The most expensive option, Tesco Finest Lasagne Al Forno, was the most underwhelming. Despite Parmesan cheese, it had an excessive amount of herbs, an overpowering smoky taste, and lacked salt. Patrone rated it 3/10.

Cheapest Options

The frozen beef lasagne (£2) scored 4/10. It had a parsley crumb and red cheddar topping but failed to impress. The Hearty Food Co. Lasagne (£2.20) was surprisingly decent at 7/10, though the pasta was overcooked and onions were under-softened.

Mid-Range Performers

The chilled Tesco Beef Lasagne (£3.50) scored 8/10, with good pasta texture but needing more cheese. The frozen Tesco Finest Beef Lasagne (£3.50) also scored 8/10, with better balanced sauces and mozzarella balls on top.

The Winner

The Tesco Vegetable Lasagne (£3.50) was the best, scoring 9/10. It had roasted vegetables, flavourful sauce, and ample cheese, though it needed slightly more seasoning. Patrone noted that all lasagnes could have used more salt.
