Spider-Man Brand New Day has finally launched in cinemas, revealing that Sadie Sink plays Jean Grey, an iconic Marvel mutant. Unlike previous portrayals by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, this version is more a victim than a villain, though she possesses powerful telepathic abilities.
Jean Grey's Role and Future Implications
In the film, Jean Grey is depicted taking a bus into the countryside at the end, hinting she may be heading to the X-Mansion in upstate New York if it exists in the MCU. She is only the second mutant revealed in Earth-616 after Ms Marvel, while variants of Deadpool, Wolverine, Beast, and Professor X have appeared from other universes.
The original 2000s X-Men cast is also set to return from another reality in Avengers Doomsday. Earth-616 is expected to get its own mutant team in the upcoming X-Men movie, which is part of Phase 7's Mutant Saga, following Phase 6's Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars.
Upcoming X-Men Movie
Directed by Jake Schreier with writers Joanna Calo and Lee Sung Jin, the new X-Men film has been described by Marvel boss Kevin Feige as a very youth-oriented, focused cast movie. A release date, official title, and cast are yet to be announced.
