Ricky Gervais saw the funny side after a condensed clip of his new series was played on The One Show due to swearing. The star's new programme, Alley Cats, is an adult animated television series that follows a group of cats as they get up to a variety of adventures, and sees Ricky voice ginger tom Gus.
However, the cartoon contains some bad language, so when Ricky appeared on The One Show, bosses had to be picky about which bit was used to promote it to audiences. After it was shown, Ricky observed that viewers had only seen "half a clip", reports the Mirror.
Swearing improvement
"Because there's lots of swearing starts," he said. "Which is an improvement on last time because last time I was on, I was plugging my mortality special and you couldn't show a clip. So this is an improvement, isn't it?"
"It's always a bit of a challenge," joked host Alex Jones. "We found 30 seconds without swearing," Alex's co-host Vernon Kay chimed in.
Not for kids
Ricky said Alley Cats was "a classic sitcom" but that it just happened to be about cats. The star added that the show was "for teenagers upwards". Presenter Alex said it "very funny" but agreed that it was "not for kids".
"It's just swearing, but yeah, it's not for young kids," the star of The Office added.
Voice cast and writing
The voice cast of Alley Cats also features Tom Basden, David Earl, Kerry Godliman and Diane Morgan. "I cast first, so I knew who was playing it," said Ricky. "So I could write them to get their personalities and their... so it seems very sort of real and natural and, you know, and they're just an amazing cast. They make it sort of seamless."
An animal lover who often gives his fans on social media a peek at his cat, TV star Ricky said that he wants viewers to love the felines in his new series. Describing the show as being "quite existential", he shared: "It's about these cats. They live such short lives and they sort of know it and they want to pack everything in."
The One Show airs at 7pm on BBC One on weekdays.
