Richard O'Sullivan, the actor best known for starring in the sitcoms Man About the House and Dick Turpin, has died aged 82. A gallery of images has been published tracing his career from early film roles to his later years.
Early Career and Breakthrough Roles
O'Sullivan appeared in the 1950s in The Adventures of Robin Hood, playing Prince Arthur alongside Richard Greene as Robin Hood. In 1959 he appeared with Kenneth Williams in Carry on Teacher, and in 1963 he had a role in Cleopatra, directed by Joseph L Mankiewicz.
During the 1960s he took parts in Six Shades of Black with Ursula Howells in 1965 and in an episode of Danger Man in 1966.
Television Stardom in the 1970s
In 1972 he appeared alongside Ernest Clark in Doctor in Charge, and in 1973 he played Dr Lawrence Bingham in the sitcom. By 1975 he was playing Robin in Man About the House, a role he reprised in the spin-off Robin's Nest in 1977.
In 1979 he took on the title role in Dick Turpin, and in 1984 he starred as Simon Harrap in the sitcom Me and My Girl.
Later Life
A photograph from 2021 shows O'Sullivan in the garden of Brinsworth House care home in Twickenham. The gallery also includes a portrait of the actor from 1976.
