Prince Harry has appeared in a new video for his charity WellChild, just days after completing a five-day trip to the UK. The Duke of Sussex, who serves as patron of WellChild, visited Birmingham Children's Hospital last week to meet families, WellChild nurses, and NHS colleagues who support children with complex medical needs to receive care at home.
Emotional Message in Charity Video
In the video shared by WellChild on social media, Harry said: "Home is where children belong. I think everyone can relate to that and understand. And those people who have been in the hospital can also relate to how hard it is to be stuck in the hospital for an extended period of time."
He highlighted that WellChild nurses provide families with the opportunity to care for their children at home and to have the memories and experiences that "every child should have."
Why Harry Was Drawn to WellChild
The Duke explained his long-standing connection to the charity, which began in 2007: "There's the courage, the determination, the compassion. There are people at the heart of this organisation. The families are grateful for the people, and the people love doing what they do. And provided that we and government, and this country can continue to give the support to WellChild and the NHS Trust as a partnership, we can continue to deliver."
He described WellChild as a community that "exists up and down the country, sort of hinged on the very nature of people's compassion for one another."
Visit to Birmingham Children's Hospital
Reflecting on his hospital visit, Harry said: "If I were to sum up my visit to Birmingham Hospital today, it would be brave, inspiring, and resilient." He saw the WellChild Better at Home Suite in action and heard families' experiences, aiming to highlight the power of partnership in giving parents confidence, skills, and support beyond the hospital.
