Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey has taken the box office by storm, grossing over $263 million worldwide in its first weekend since release on July 17. The $250 million epic, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, and Zendaya, has sparked interest in Greek mythology baby names.

Most Popular Greek Mythology Baby Names

British clothing retailer JoJo Maman Bébé analysed new ONS baby name data to reveal the most common Greek mythology-inspired names. For girls, Penelope—the faithful wife of Odysseus—tops the list with 1,174 babies given the name in 2025. Athena follows with 519, then Rhea (109), Persephone (77), and Gaia (77).

For boys, Atlas is the most popular with 355 babies named after the Titan condemned to carry the heavens. Other top boys' names include Ares (56), Apollo (39), Artemis (14), and Perseus (8).

Gender Trends

The study found that girls are far more likely to be named after Greek gods than boys. The top five girls' names total over 2,500, while boys' top five sum to under 500.
