Temitope Osoba, a beloved Nigerian actress known for her roles in Nollywood, has died at the age of 40. Her death was confirmed by her co-star Alesh Sanni and a family spokesperson.
Co-star and family confirm the tragic loss
On Instagram, Sanni wrote: "Couldn’t sleep last night; it is well. Rest in peace, my dearest sister. Temitope Osoba. We had an amazing time and good memories together. Till we meet again. I really dunno what to say, mehn, again. Gosh," (sic).
A family spokesperson announced: "It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Osoba Temitope Olamidisun, who departed this life on 5th of August, 2026. Temitope was more than a public figure; she was a cherished daughter, sister, cousin, friend, and an inspiration to countless people whose lives she touched through her talent, kindness, and unwavering spirit."
The statement continued: "Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her and supporting her journey. During this incredibly difficult time, we kindly ask for your prayers, love, and respect for the family’s privacy as we grieve this immeasurable loss."
Cancer battle and recent remission
Osoba's death comes just months after she celebrated being cancer-free. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer in 2024 and took a hiatus for surgery and treatment. In a special 40th birthday post, she reflected: "Surviving cancer changed me. It taught me how precious life is, how fragile moments can be, and how powerful hope truly is."
She added: "I carry the scars, but I also carry the lessons — the courage I never knew I had, the love that held me together, and the quiet strength that kept whispering, ‘keep going.’ So today, I celebrate life in a way I never have before. I celebrate breath, sunrise, second chances, and the beauty of simply being alive."
She concluded: "Turning 40 isn’t just a birthday for me… It’s a victory, a blessing, and a reminder that miracles happen. Happy 40th birthday to me — a survivor, a fighter, and a living testimony." She had been promoting her latest Nollywood release, Cost Of A Lie.
Fans mourn and pay tribute
The news sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans. One wrote: "I loved her in movies, she's one of my fave... Ahh, this is so sad." Another commented: "Oh no, she fought so hard. Rest easy, darling Temitope."
A third said: "Forty is far too young to pass away. Heartbreaking news for her family, friends, and the entire Nollywood industry." Another echoed: "May her soul rest in peace; she fought so hard."
The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
