The Newcastle Pride march will take place this weekend, starting at 12 noon from the Civic Centre on Saturday, July 25. Participants can gather from 11am. The march will head along St. Mary's Place, down Northumberland Street, and end at Grey's Monument, where a rally will feature guest speakers including North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and Olympic champion Dame Kelly Holmes.
Route and rally details
This year's march will not return to the Civic Centre; instead, it will culminate at Monument. Other speakers include Deputy Leader of Newcastle City Council Mark Mitchell, Councillor Melissa Harker, Kate Osborne MP, CEO of Curious Arts Phil Douglas, and Christine Jackson, Branch Secretary at UNISON. The theme for this year's event, organised by Curious Arts, is 'city of hope, streets of joy'.
Road closures
The following roads will be closed from 11:30am to 2pm: St. Mary's Place between John Dobson Street and Barras Bridge, Northumberland Street, Blackett Street, New Bridge Street West, and Pilgrim Street between Market Street and Blackett Street. Passengers are advised to check Stagecoach and Go North East websites for service updates.
