Comedian Asim Chaudhry, known for People Just Do Nothing, has revealed his favourite London spots, from a French brasserie in Piccadilly Circus to an ancient Roman bathhouse.
Dining and Dating
For a first date, Chaudhry recommends Brasserie Zédel in Piccadilly Circus, describing it as a beautiful Art Deco room two floors down. He notes the food is amazing and affordable, at about £22, with Bar Americain next door offering good cocktails.
His best meal in London is at Aladin’s in Hendon, where he recommends the haleem, a Pakistani stew slowly cooked with lamb. He suggests having it in winter as it’s a hearty dish.
Shopping and Essentials
Chaudhry relies on Selfridges as a one-stop shop for presents, alongside Sainsbury’s and Tesco. He also mentions his local chicken shop as an outlet he relies on a lot.
Fun and Relaxation
For fun, he recalls nostalgic trips to SegaWorld in the Trocadero. To unwind, he enjoys the ancient bathhouse Aire, describing it as a beautiful, old-school Roman baths experience that offers an escape from London madness.
He would bring back the bendy bus if he were Mayor for a day, remembering the number 25 bus from his university days in Bow, and would make it free for a day to relive it.
Exercise and Encounters
Chaudhry says he walks everywhere, calling all of London his gym. He recounts past run-ins with police in Hounslow, where he and his friends were stopped and searched, attributing it to being a person of colour in London at the time.
His biggest extravagance is a Japanese toilet at home that warms his bum cheeks and gives him a full MOT, calling it one of the best things he’s ever bought.
