My Life as a Welcome to Wrexham Extra: Swearing on Disney+
My Life as a Welcome to Wrexham Extra: Swearing on Disney+

There are a couple of things you never expect to do in life. One is sharing a streaming platform with the Kardashians. The other is having to explain to your mum why you just swore twice on Disney+.

Hollywood magic is a beautiful thing on screen. But nobody tells you the reality involves standing in the freezing North Wales drizzle on a random midweek night, screaming at an empty pitch just because the documentary makers didn't want to pay hefty FA Cup broadcast fees.

Over the last five seasons of Welcome to Wrexham, clips from the Fearless in Devotion podcast - which I'm part of - have occasionally popped up on the hit show. Because of that, I'm no stranger to the odd late-night text from a deeply confused mate.

I'm certainly not a household name like Wayne from The Turf just yet. However, season five has taken things to a whole new level after I did some extra filming with the documentary crew. Now, my phone is constantly lighting up with screenshots from friends and family demanding to know: "What on earth are you doing on my telly again?"

If they watched the latest episode, they got a very loud, very uncensored answer. Hollywood reality TV looks incredibly slick by the time it hits the Disney+ editing suite, but the actual process of making it is surprisingly grounded - and frantic.

For this particular episode, a group of us were invited down to the Racecourse Ground to take part in a "talk through" of last season's high-drama FA Cup clash against Premier League giants Chelsea. It was a completely surreal feeling sitting in the makeshift green room hidden away in the underbelly of the Tech End.

I found myself rubbing shoulders with the likes of Wrexham legend Andy Morrell, former women's team star Mia Roberts, iconic club commentator Mark Griffiths, Declan Swans frontman Michael "Scoot" Hett and local photographer Oliver Stephen. One by one, everyone took their turn under the bright lights to dissect the match.

By the time my podcast co-host Tim Edwards and I were finally called up, we weren't just battling our nerves - we were firmly up against the clock. Racecourse groundsman Paul Challoner was patiently hovering in the wings, keys firmly in hand, just waiting to lock up the stadium and go home.

We were told in no uncertain terms that the floodlights needed to be shut off imminently. It was a race against total darkness, filmed under the kind of high-stakes pressure that completely bypasses your brain's internal filter.

Reliving midfielder George Dobson's controversial late red card after a dreaded VAR review, all my journalistic eloquence completely vanished. Instead of delivering a measured, tactical breakdown, I bypassed the chalkboard entirely and hollered "absolute bull s***" directly into the lens. To properly wrap up our tactical analysis, Tim and I then delivered a beautifully synchronised, heartfelt "F*** VAR" for good measure.

All in all, it was a fantastic, unforgettable experience that perfectly sums up the beautiful madness of the modern Wrexham AFC journey. It is an absolute privilege to be a tiny part of the storytelling machine that has firmly put our club on the global map.

If Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney need a foul-mouthed podcaster for season six, they know exactly where to find me. Just please, whatever you do, don't tell my mum.
