Mural Honours Bigg Market Legend Chris the Disc at Newcastle Pub
Mural Honours Bigg Market Legend Chris the Disc

Months after his passing, a mural has been created in honour of Newcastle and Bigg Market legend Chris the Disc at The Old George pub. The painting, which shows Chris Langshaw at his decks, now has pride of place in the pub's courtyard, which is being transformed by a host of murals to honour Geordie icons.

A Permanent Tribute at a Famous Pub

His face will be seen by regulars at The Old George for years to come, thanks to the mural painted on one of its courtyard walls. The pub revealed the tribute on Thursday, allowing Bigg Market regulars to raise a glass to Chris every time they visit.

There was a huge outpouring of sadness and an abundance of tributes when it was announced at the start of June that Chris, one of Newcastle nightlife's real characters for years, had passed away after a battle with leukaemia. He died just 13 months after his diagnosis.

A Legacy of Music and Charity

For many people, Chris was Mr Newcastle when it came to their nights out, with him on the decks at places like Yel, in the days when they were among the busiest places in town. He started his DJ career at Jimmyz and continued until a matchday gig at City Vaults.

He also did a tremendous amount for charity, most notably raising money by doing a 12,000-mile ride through South East Asia in 2017. He was also one of the team behind the always sold out Bigg Market reunions that have become one of the hottest tickets in town over the last few years.

Pub's Own Words

Sharing a photo of the creation on Instagram, The Old George wrote: 'Another amazing piece of artwork for our courtyard but this one is for the late Christopher ‘ Chris The Disc’ Langshaw who sadly passed on 05/06/26.'

They added: 'He was an incredible DJ throughout his life but being most memorable throughout the 90s & 2000s working in clubs such as YEL & City Vaults. He did amazing charity work over years as well so from us at The Old George., thank you Chris this one of for you.'
