Marks and Spencer (M&S) is relaunching its nostalgic St Michael clothing range on August 20, following Gen Z interest on secondhand marketplaces. The 26-piece capsule collection will feature streetwear pieces, such as tracksuits and T-shirts emblazoned with the nostalgic logo, in collaboration with the cult British label Aries.
New look for a classic label
The new fits will be a far cry from the sensible outfits, accessories, and homewares of times gone by. The revamped look comes after Gen Z appear to have taken a shine to the M&S brand on secondhand marketplaces, with the name trending on sites over the last five years, such is their love for nostalgic 90s clothes.
“For so many customers, seeing the St Michael label will bring back fond memories,” said Maddy Evans, director of womenswear at M&S, speaking to The Telegraph. “As we celebrate 100 years of fashion at M&S [in 2026], we worked with Aries to reinterpret St Michael to feel fresh for today, while staying true to the quality and trusted value that has been part of our DNA since the very beginning.”
Accessories and collectables
The capsule will also include fun accessories, including statement brooches and hair clips. M&S hopes its green leather carrier bag emblazoned with the label will become a “modern collectable”.
Aries design partnership
Aries, M&S’s design partner for the new St Michael collection, is known for its relaxed, oversized, genderless pieces, hinting at what the new range may look like.
History of St Michael
St Michael dates back to 1928 when Simon Marks, son of Marks and Spencer co-founder Michael, launched the clothing range. It became a household name for staple clothes, such as t-shirts and underwear, but the label was scrapped in 2000 during a challenging financial period. It was briefly reintroduced in 2021, when M&S sold a men’s rugby shirt and sweatshirt bearing the St Michael name. Apart from this, the label has been absent for nearly 30 years.
