A content creator has spent £20,000 building a miniature Greek village in his back garden in Switzerland, complete with white walls, blue shutters, cobbled streets, and a tiny bar.
Michael Scherrer, 48, a content creator and gardener, created the 15 by 15 metres site with his brother Samuel. The village is part of a wider backyard theme park that includes a fairy-tale alley, a Japanese garden, and Halloween-themed spaces.
A Passion Project with Challenges
Building the village was not always straightforward. Michael explained that it took longer than expected due to permissions in Switzerland and having to break for the weather, as winter temperatures can drop below freezing.
The idea for the theme park came from a desire to garden and build. The brothers have 1,500 square meters to build over and have built on 600 metres so far.
Recreating a Holiday Atmosphere
The tiny Greek village was designed to recreate the atmosphere of a sun-soaked holiday destination with 'endless' sunny days. Michael said, 'Because it's summer, whenever I go in there I feel like I am transported.'
Friends who visit the bar love taking pictures and fooling their friends into believing they are on holiday. Michael noted that his sister once fooled her co-workers, and when she returned, six different people asked her how her holiday weekend was.
Future Plans and Additions
The brothers started their Instagram account in November 2024, which now has over 70k followers. They have been working on miniature themed villages for more than four years and are planning future additions, including a fishing village and a guest room.
Future building plans include flats from the TV series Friends and a pirate ship inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean. The pair also plan to turn their Greek escape into a guest room, advertising on Instagram that they will open in 2027 via Airbnb.
