The Duchess of Sussex appeared focused during a “very serious” dinner as she was spotted out and about in London this week. Meghan Markle was filmed having an intimate dinner at Claridge’s in Mayfair on Wednesday, joined by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.
Prince Harry’s wife, 45, and 29-year-old Malala have known each other for many years. Meghan was dressed casually in a white top and looked focused as the conversation went on. She kept her hair in her signature low bun and appeared to be fresh-faced.
Body language analysis
A body language specialist has analysed the duchess’s appearance in the video circulating on social media. Body language expert Judi James said Meghan appeared to be her true self as she told the Daily Express: “Meghan is seated facing the room here in this booth, although this choice of seating facing outward could have been a courtesy to Malala, who has a very high public profile herself.”
She added: “The body language looks low-key as the two women lean in together rather than sitting back and relaxing, and Meghan appears to have both arms on the table, lightly folded. This suggests a point where they were less about eating any food and more about what looks like quite an important and intense conversation.”
Shared campaigning history
“It looks deep and calm, as though the two women, who share the trait of very serious campaigning, are perhaps discussing world issues rather than just enjoying the proverbial 'girls' night out', which might normally see more relaxed and playful-looking body language poses.”
Malala is a Pakistani female education activist and the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate in history. She first met Meghan during a virtual discussion on October 11, 2020, to mark the International Day of the Girl, a cause the duchess is hugely passionate about.
In a Zoom chat streamed by the Malala Fund, the two women spoke about the systemic barriers that prevent millions of girls from accessing education. It is the latest of Meghan’s private appearances since moving back to the UK in the summer.
