Lotus and Lemongrass: New Thai and Vietnamese Restaurant in Amble

Lotus and Lemongrass, a new Thai and Vietnamese restaurant in Amble, Northumberland, has opened its doors to the public, bringing authentic Asian flavours to the North East. The restaurant, recently refurbished from what was previously Gracy’s, is now a permanent fixture on Amble’s High Street.

Owner’s Decade in Thailand Inspires Menu

Owner Thomas McBrearty, who lived in Thailand for ten years teaching, wanted to share the food culture he experienced with people back home. “Having spent a decade living in Asia, I’m so excited to bring the real authentic flavours I fell in love with home to Amble,” he said.

What began as a once-a-week treat for café goers has grown into a full restaurant, supported by nearby local businesses. ChronicleLive attended the soft launch before the doors opened to the public last month.

Atmosphere and Open Kitchen

The restaurant offers a cosy, calming atmosphere with soft music and deep blues, setting the mood before the food arrives. An open kitchen lets guests watch chefs Moon and Anna prepare meals, described as full-flavoured and simple.

Lotus and Lemongrass operates a set menu that changes monthly, allowing guests to try different dishes on each visit. “With two incredibly talented chefs, each bringing their own distinct style to the kitchen, we’re offering our guests a truly unique monthly dining experience,” Thomas said.

Dishes and Cultural Touches

Reviewers tried fresh prawn spring rolls, red Thai curry, fried spring rolls, and chicken skewers, all described as beautifully balanced and full of flavour. The restaurant also provides cards with basic Thai and Vietnamese greetings and key words for staple menu items, making the experience more than just food.
