Lime Bike Jousting Rematch Set for Halloween in London

The second round of a Lime Bike jousting tournament has been announced, despite warnings from the company that the bikes are “not for jousting”.

Hundreds of people gathered at London Fields last weekend to watch two cyclists clad in medieval armour tilt at each other on e-bikes.

Viral Success of the First Joust

Videos of artist Jack Carden and actor ‘Camtholomew’ going head-to-head to the sound of crowds chanting “joust, joust, joust” went viral on social media in the days following.

One video of the event on Carden’s Instagram account has been watched more than four million times.

A voiceover during the video says: “I want to remind you all why we are here, not only does this mean some artistic violence but to come together and celebrate art, to remind ourselves that we’re all the same and that what we need right now in this world is a little bit more love.”

Rematch Announced Despite Lime’s Warning

Now, the duo has announced the much anticipated rematch, with a promotional post on Carden’s social media page reading: “Lime Bike Jousting 2” with photos of the participants and their modified Lime Bikes.

This is despite the fact that Lime issued a warning following the previous joust that the bikes are “not for jousting” and that “safety must always come first”.

A spokesperson for Lime said on Monday: “We always love seeing Londoners come together and build a sense of community in unexpected ways.

“While we appreciate the medieval spirit, safety must always come first.

“Lime bikes are designed for getting around the city, not for jousting.

“We discourage anyone from attempting similar events, to help keep riders and those around them safe.”

Posting on social media in the run up to the weekend, Mr Carden said the “free public joust” was “performance art”.

Details of the Upcoming Event

“Lime Bike Jousting 2” will take place on October 31 at 3.30pm at an as of yet undisclosed location.
