Swansea Council plans to relocate the Leaf Boat sculpture from Castle Square to Cwmdonkin Park in Uplands, the city's first park.
The artwork, inspired by the poetry of Dylan Thomas, will be moved to strengthen its connection to the celebrated literary figure. Thomas spent his childhood near the park and drew inspiration from it for his writing.
Artist supports relocation
The council worked closely with sculptor Amber Hiscott on the artwork's future, and she has supported the relocation. Her contribution will be recognised through new interpretation at the site.
The move will take place over the coming weeks, coinciding with ongoing work to transform Castle Square into a greener, more welcoming city centre space.
New home in Uplands
Once installed, the glass and steel sculpture dating from the mid-1990s will remain freely accessible for residents and visitors.
Cabinet member Elliott King said the artwork will be installed within an existing water feature close to Park Drive. “We're delighted that it'll be in a highly visible location in the park, in an attractive setting for residents and visitors to enjoy,” he said.
