Laurie Anderson has completed her manuscript for the Future Library project in Oslo, joining a select group of authors whose works will remain unread for nearly a century. The manuscript, which was delivered this week, will be published in 2114 as part of the ongoing art project.
Future Library Project Details
The Future Library, conceived by artist Katie Paterson, collects one manuscript each year from a different author. These works are stored in a specially designed room in the Deichman library in Oslo, and will be printed on paper made from trees planted in the nearby Nordmarka forest in 2014.
Anderson, known for her multimedia performances and music, is the 12th contributor to the project. Previous contributors include Margaret Atwood, David Mitchell, and Sjón.
Unveiling in 2114
The manuscripts are scheduled to be unveiled in 2114, when the forest trees will have matured enough to produce the paper for the anthologies. Anderson's contribution adds to the project's growing archive of unpublished works.
The project emphasizes the long-term commitment to literature and the environment, with the forest and manuscripts symbolizing a bridge between generations.
