Laura Whitmore stuns Saturday Kitchen with raw mushroom snack

Laura Whitmore left her fellow Saturday Kitchen guests stunned over the reveal of her controversial favourite snack on the BBC programme.

The fan favourite BBC cooking series has been hosted by Matt Tebbutt on a permanent basis since 2017. He initially began guest-hosting following James Martin's departure the previous year.

Fans of the series are currently waiting for new episodes due to the crew being on their summer holidays. On Saturday morning (August 15), the BBC filled in the gap by airing Saturday Kitchen Best Bites.

Best Bites episode

Introducing the episode, Matt said: "We're on our holidays, so instead of normal Saturday service, we're whisking you off around the world, delivering Sri Lankan spice, Ukrainian classics, Cypriot sunshine and a beautiful British afternoon tea in drink form. This is Saturday Kitchen Best Bites."

The synopsis for Saturday's episode read: "Matt Tebbutt dishes up a feast of food from Ben Lippett, Karan Gokani and Georgina Hayden."

One star who featured on the recap show was none other than Irish TV presenter Laura Whitmore. Laura is best known for her time hosting Love Island on ITV between 2020 and 2022.

Raw mushroom revelation

Saturday Kitchen fans will never forget when Laura made an appearance on the series back in 2022. Discussing her love of food, Laura noted that her idea of food heaven was a seafood linguine and her food hell was anything with onions on it.

Interrogating Laura about her dream snack, Matt had to make sure the information provided to him was true, he asked: "So Laura, a little birdy tells me you love eating raw mushrooms with mayonnaise?"

Bursting out laughing, Laura shared her love of raw mushrooms. She proceeded to pick up a raw mushroom and eat it, leaving fellow guests Helen McGinn and Paul A. Young watching on in horror.

Drinks expert Helen said: "Just don't want to watch... oh my gosh she eats it like an apple", with Chocolatier Paul adding: "I can't even watch."

Laura was then presented with her own plate of raw mushrooms and two bottles of her personalised mayonnaise 'Whit-Mayo'. To complete her meal Laura added some cheese on top of it.

Providing some insight into how she learned she loved the unorthodox snack in the first place, Laura stated: "That's what I used to do when I was younger."

When it came time for Laura to find out if she'd have her food heaven and food hell, she was tasked with choosing out of the mayonnaise bottles. Picking out a blue bottle, this meant she was given her food heaven.

Proceeding to eat another mushroom with mayo on top, she joked: "That is lovely.... it gets the pallet going for a seafood linguine."

It's been a busy time for Laura, with she and her husband Iain Stirling currently expecting their second child. The couple are already parents to daughter Stevie Ré, who was born in 2021.
