Kelly Rowland does blind audition as she joins The Voice UK as coach

Kelly Rowland has performed a blind audition on The Voice UK as she joins the show as a coach. The former Destiny's Child singer, 45, sang a snippet of The Bee Gees' Emotion, a song covered by her former girl group, during the audition process for the upcoming series.

Joining the coaching panel

Rowland will replace country singer LeAnn Rimes, who left the show after one season. She will perform to the coaching panel of Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am, and McFly's Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones, who will have their backs turned to her before spinning round to see the star and welcome her.

When news of her joining was announced, Rowland said: “I am excited to join The Voice UK as a coach and am looking forward to working with the excellent and passionate coaches the show is known for. I can’t wait to hear all the new talent and to go to battle for my team. Let’s go.”

New rewind button feature

A new change is being introduced for the new series – the rewind button. This gives each coach one chance during the blind auditions to change their mind about an act who has left the stage without a single chair turn. If a coach realises they have made a mistake, they can press rewind, bring the act back, and offer them a place on their team.

Emma Willis, who will host the upcoming season of Strictly Come Dancing, will also return to The Voice this season.

Rowland's career highlights

Rowland began her career in the 1990s with US girl group Destiny's Child, alongside Beyonce Knowles and Michelle Williams. She has achieved two UK number one solo singles: Dilemma with rapper Nelly and When Love Takes Over with DJ David Guetta. She has also had four hit albums in the UK, including a number one with 2003's Simply Deep.

Rowland previously appeared as a judge on the eighth season of The X Factor UK, where she was credited with putting British girl group Little Mix together, who went on to win the show in 2011. She also coached on the Australian version of The Voice between 2017 and 2020.

The Voice UK returns to ITV1 and ITVX at 7pm on Saturday August 22.
