Isla, a highly rated restaurant in Durham, has been added to the Michelin Guide for 2026, marking a prestigious achievement just as it celebrates its second anniversary. It is one of only 12 establishments across the UK and Ireland to receive this honour in the latest monthly update from Michelin inspectors.
Recognition for Quality Brunch and Small Plates
Isla, located on North Road in the centre of Durham, opened in 2024 in the same premises that previously housed a coffee shop. Despite its small size, the restaurant has built a strong reputation for quality brunches and small plates. The team behind Isla also runs the highly successful restaurant Coarse. Michelin inspectors add restaurants to the selection on a monthly basis, with Stars and Bib Gourmands revealed only at the annual Michelin Guide Ceremony.
Social Media Celebration
Thrilled with the inclusion, Isla took to social media to share the news. The post read: "Well… what a way to celebrate turning TWO! This month marks our 2nd birthday, and we’re beyond excited to share that we’ve also been included in the Michelin Guide!" The restaurant added: "What started as a dream (and a lot of hard work, coffee, and late nights!) has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of. To be recognised by Michelin while celebrating two years of welcoming our amazing guests feels pretty special. A huge thank you to our incredible team, suppliers, friends, family, and every single person who has walked through our doors, shared a meal, recommended us, and supported us along the way."
Customer Reactions
Regulars were unsurprised by the accolade. One commented: "Congratulations! Not surprised at all, everything about your place is wonderful - food, drinks, staff, atmosphere! Hope to come back soon." Another said: "Amazing and so well deserved. See you all soon."
