A new museum exhibition at Anfield Stadium celebrates the remarkable career of Ian Rush, Liverpool FC's all-time record goalscorer. Opening to the public on Friday, August 14, the exhibition traces Rush's journey from a young footballer in Flint, North Wales, to a legendary Reds No.9.
Rush, who scored 346 goals in 660 appearances for the club, worked directly with the LFC Museum and Tours team to create the exhibition. Visitors will be greeted by a life-size hologram in an immersive two-minute introduction that speaks directly to supporters, glitching between the icon as he is now and the player who lit up Anfield in the 1980s and '90s.
A Personal Touch
Speaking at a launch event at Anfield, the 64-year-old said: "This exhibition means a great deal to me because it isn't just about football. It's about memories, it's about the people I played with, the managers who believed in me, the supporters who stood behind me and the club that became my home."
Rush added: "When I first arrived at Liverpool as a young lad from North Wales, I never dreamed of what lay ahead. I simply wanted to work hard, score goals and earn the right to wear this famous shirt. I've worked closely with the Stadium Tours and Museum team here at Anfield to make this as personal as possible and it means a great deal to be able to share it all with our wonderful supporters."
Memorabilia and Achievements
The exhibition features personal memorabilia provided by Rush, including his European and English First Division Golden Boot awards, all 16 of his Liverpool hat-trick match balls, and three match-worn FA Cup final shirts from the club's victories in 1986, 1989, and 1992. Rush won five league titles, two European Cups, three FA Cups, and five League Cups with Liverpool.
He took third place in the recent Greatest vote, behind only Sir Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard.
