Huge queues gathered inside a service station as 100 free items were given away. At 12 o’clock today, Thursday, July 23, Preston-born brothers Jacob and Harley Nelson officially opened their second SpudBros site in Merseyside, with around 90 people turning up to be the first to try.
Social media fame
The siblings achieved international fame via social media, garnering more than five million fans across various platforms. They've charmed the online crowd with personal vlogs that capture snippets of their everyday antics, particularly focusing on their mobile shop – affectionately known as their tram – where they whip up jacket potatoes.
Renowned for their POV-style videos, the two entertained with footage of themselves preparing spuds topped with favourites like baked beans, cheese, chilli, and tuna, all accompanied by genuine "northern banter".
Their clips have opened doors to working with some of social media's top influencers, including Sidemen, MrBeast, Alex Warren, and actor Will Smith.
Previous opening
The siblings already have a store located in Queen Square in the unit previously occupied by Costa Coffee. This site opened back in September, with an official ribbon-cutting, live DJ set, social content moments, and a secret gift for the first 100 customers.
It also saw the brothers giving away their jacket potatoes for 1p. At the time, the brothers warned there would be huge queues, and they were right.
Bradley Klimly was the first in the 300-person-strong queue. The 27-year-old from Wirral stayed in the doorway of the Queen Square store overnight to ensure his spot was secured.
New location
This time around, it was no different with the queues. Jacob said: "The support we've had from Liverpool has been incredible, so opening a second SpudBros Express location in the city feels like a natural next step."
The team gave away 100 free potatoes at the new site found at The Beacon 62 Service Station, an EG On The Move forecourt located at Coppice Lane, Tarbock, Prescot, Liverpool (L35 1QT).
SpudBros’ journey began in 1955 when a hot potato cart first opened on Preston’s Flag Market. Decades later, Jacob and Harley transformed the family tradition into one of the UK’s most recognisable food brands.
