A free exhibition celebrating classic children's books has opened at the Lowry in Salford. The Wild Things exhibition explores animals in children’s literature, featuring beloved classics such as Elmer, Dear Zoo, Poo in the Zoo and Meerkat Mail, alongside newer favourites like Time for Bed, Fred!, The Steves, and The Great Unicorn Rescue.

The exhibition runs at Andrew Law Galleries at Lowry until Sunday, November 1. Lowry is around a 50 minute drive from Liverpool city centre. Admission is free, and visitors can pre-book a timeslot at thelowry.com.
Visitors will see original illustrations by artists including Diane Ewen, Nick Sharratt, Helen Oxenbury, Lydia Monks and Rod Campbell, alongside stories by Julia Donaldson, Michael Rosen, Yasmeen Ismail and Lizzy Stewart.
Interactive activities for children
The exhibition is designed to support reading, play and imagination, with screen-free interactives and games for under-7s, including Vera’s Veggie Delights Stall and The Furry Wardrobe. Every young visitor will receive a free specially designed notebook to write and draw their own animal stories. The Reading Nest offers a space to relax and read together.
Lowry will also present Dear Zoo on its Quays Theatre stage from Tuesday, August 11 to Sunday, August 16.
