Beloved actress Fiorenza Marchegiani died on Tuesday, August 11, at the age of 73. No cause of death has been confirmed, but reports indicate she died suddenly.

Son's tribute

Her son, football star Filippo Scardina, confirmed the news as he paid a moving tribute to his mother in two posts on his Instagram stories. His first message was a short note informing his followers about her funeral details, which read: "For those wishing to pay their final respects to Fiorenza, he wrote: "The funeral will be held at the Church of Santa Lucia del Gonfaloni on Via de Banchivecchi dachi 13 tomorrow morning at 10." He also shared a second story simply featuring an evocative photo of his mother when she was young.

On December 16, 2009, the footballer had dedicated his first and only official goal for AS Roma to her during a 3-0 UEFA Europa League win against CSKA Sofia. At the time, he stated: "I dedicate this goal to my mum, whom I spoke to before the game... The goal is a kiss for her."

Hometown tribute

Michela Glorio, the mayor of her hometown Osimo, also paid tribute in a statement: "We mourn the passing of Fiorenza Marchegiani, a brilliant actress born in 1953 in Osimo, where she lived for many years in the historic centre." "We often had the pleasure of seeing her strolling, with all her unparalleled elegance, along Corso Mazzini and in Piazza del Comune," he said. The city awarded her the civic honour in 2005.

Having graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome she appeared in roles in TV series such as Che fare? and Quattro delittli i. She made her big screen debut playing Marta in Massimo Troisi's first film, Ricomincio da tre in 1981. She went on to play Letizia Visconti in the popular soap opera Vivere.
