Charity's Baby Lie Exposed
Last year, Charity agreed to be a surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah, but discovered she was naturally pregnant by Ross Barton. She kept this secret, leading Sarah to believe the surrogacy had succeeded. However, Dr Caitlin Todd, who had previously bullied Sarah's partner Jacob, learned the truth and blackmailed Charity for money. The situation escalated when Dr Todd sexually assaulted a drunken Charity.
Serena Sugden's Influence
Newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) encouraged Charity to expose Dr Todd, even if it meant revealing everything to her family. In Thursday's episode, Charity bravely faced the music, first telling Mack that Sarah's baby was from a one-night stand with Ross. Mack initially stormed out, but returned, unable to reveal the secret to Sarah.
Charity Reveals Assault
Charity then disclosed Dr Todd's blackmail and the sexual assault. Mack, shocked but calm, insisted they go to the police, despite Todd previously claiming the encounter was consensual. Charity said: "The only way through this is telling the truth and facing the consequences of what I have done. No matter what." She planned to tell Sarah and then go to the police.
Mack's Support
Mack advised delaying telling Sarah but urged Charity to fight for justice: "It's gonna be a lot for everyone to deal with it, so maybe we cross that bridge when we come to it. What matters right now is that you go to the police." He added: "Dr Todd is not karma. She's a rapist who took advantage of you when you were vulnerable. So I need you to get out of that way of thinking because it lets her off the hook."
