A circus performer accidentally shot her own husband in the neck with a crossbow during a live show in New York. Ana Daza Tavera, 42, and Edwin Cuervo Rangel, 38, were performing their famous sharpshooting act at the Orange County Fair in Wallkill when the mishap occurred.

The Incident

Cuervo Rangel was holding a foam target while Tavera aimed a crossbow, but she missed and struck him in the neck with the arrow. He was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in stable condition. The circus was canceled for the night but later reopened without the crossbow performance.

Aftermath and Recovery

Ringmaster Benjamin Jackson of Circus Murcia said the arrow hit a spot on the side of Cuervo Rangel's neck with mostly soft tissue and no major blood vessels. 'No blood leaking out. There was a little around the hole where the arrow went in, kind of like getting your ear pierced,' he told reporters. The arrow was safely removed the next day, and Cuervo Rangel received stitches before being released from the hospital. Jackson noted that while he will need time before returning to the circus, he was 'walking around, talking, eating, enjoying life.'
