Claire Sweeney has received support from her former Coronation Street co-stars as she returned to Liverpool in the role that marked her exit from the cobbles.
The ITV soap star, who played Cassie Plummer in the Salford-based series, left Weatherfield earlier this year to take on the role of Miss Hannigan in the touring production of Annie. Her final scenes aired in August, after which she paid tribute to her three years on the show.
Cassie's dramatic exit
Cassie's departure storyline ended in mystery following the return of her son Tyrone Dobbs' father, Ross Wilkes. After Ross threatened her life, Cassie was seen spiking his drink with Tyrone's painkillers, but he spotted her and swapped the drinks with Tracy, who collapsed and was hospitalised after a drug overdose.
Cassie pleaded with her family to believe Ross had set her up, but was cast out. She went to the precinct to say goodbye to her partner, Steve McDonald, but Ross intercepted her, offered her a lift to the train station and confessed to framing her. When she threatened to go to the police, he sped off with her still in the car. Viewers have been left wondering what happened to Cassie, particularly as Ross has since lied to Steve about dropping her off, a falsehood noticed by his new daughter-in-law, Fiz Dobbs.
Reunion at the Liverpool Empire
Claire is currently performing as Miss Hannigan, and last week Annie arrived at the Liverpool Empire. Alan Halsall and Jennie McAlpine, who play Tyrone and Fiz, attended the show with their daughters, Sienna and Hilda.
Sharing a picture of the trio, Claire wrote on Instagram: "You found me lol…..love you both and thank you for coming to @liverpool_empire to see @anniemusicaluk @alanhalsall Jennie and Sienna and Hilda." Corrie co-star Vinta Morgan, who plays Ronnie Bailey, responded "Love this," and fans expressed delight at the reunion, with comments including "Great to see you all together again" and "Already missed in Corrie!"
