Cleddau series 2: First look at Welsh-English crime drama

Fans of crime drama Cleddau are being given a look at what they can expect when the second series launches on S4C this October. The series starring Richard Harrington is once again being filmed in English as The One That Got Away for a run on BBC iPlayer.

Returning cast and new faces

The six-part second series sees DI Ffion Lloyd (Elen Rhys) and DS Rick Sheldon (Harrington) return as they hunt a killer who uses a dating app to stalk his victims. New pictures showcase the Pembrokeshire coastline which serves as a breathtaking backdrop to the drama’s location.

Returning cast include Mali Ann Rees (DC ‘Mogsy’ Morgan) and Aled Pugh (DS Celyn Howells) alongside Sharon Morgan (Delyth Lloyd), William Thomas (Griff Lloyd), Rhian Blythe (Helen Sheldon), and Hannah Daniel (Lisa Redwood).

Awards and production

New cast for series two include Saran Morgan (DC Catrin Duffy), Garmon Rhys (Tom Danbridge), Mabli Jên Eustace (Manon Grant) and also Gareth David-Lloyd (Liam Floyd). The first series of Cleddau was a major success for S4C in 2024, achieving the highest average viewing sessions of any non-sport and non-children's series on the service.

Cleddau won Best Drama at the RTS Cymru Wales Awards in 2025 and was also nominated in four other categories at last year’s BAFTA Cymru Awards, including Elen Rhys for Best Actress. Series two is written and created by Catherine Tregenna, adapted into Welsh by Hanna Jarman and Matthew Glyn Jones and directed by Siôn Ifan.

Producer on series two

Mared Swain, the show’s producer, says: "We were delighted by the response to the first series of Cleddau, from audiences in Wales and beyond. The story, characters and world Catherine Tregenna created left us with so many possibilities to explore, so we're thrilled to be bringing viewers a second series.

"It has been a privilege to return to Pembrokeshire with our cast and crew, and we're incredibly grateful to S4C, particularly Gwenllian Gravelle their Head of Film and Drama, for their continued support and belief in the project. We can't wait for audiences to join Ffion and Rick on another gripping and unexpected investigation this autumn."

Audience reaction to series one

Reviewing series one of the English version, The One That Got Away, on Rotten Tomatoes, one viewer said: "We loved it. Binged the show." A second said: "I binge watched this after finding it on bbc iplayer. The story was interesting and was a fresh take on the serial killer crime genre."

Another posted: "Good watch, couple of occasions where police jump to conclusions slightly ruined it. Elen Rhys fantastic in lead role." However, there was some criticism with one saying: "Good but extremely flawed procedurally." And: "So predictable it was ridiculous."
