Chase's Shaun Wallace on romance and no kids

Shaun Wallace, known as The Dark Destroyer on ITV's The Chase, has offered a rare glimpse into his personal life, revealing he is in a relationship but keeps his partner out of the public eye. The 66-year-old quiz master discussed his romance during a podcast appearance, responding "Yeah of course there is" when asked if there was someone special, but declined to share further details. When presenter Mr Motivator asked if he might meet his partner, Shaun cheekily replied: "No you can't."

Emotional side and career focus

Shaun said he bears no resemblance to his stone-faced television character, stating: "At the end of the day, it's just another day at the office. I'm emotional, I'm not a machine, I have feelings." He added, quoting Shakespeare: "You know, what Shakespeare said, if you prick me, do I not bleed? Of course I do, I'd like to think."

Recalling a filming instance during The Chasers Road Trip, Shaun said he was told he had an "extremely high" degree of emotional intelligence after undergoing evaluation. He said: "So I think I've got a great degree of empathy because I do care about people and people are important to me."

Reason for no children

In 2024, the ITV personality revealed he is in a relationship but unmarried and has no children. Speaking on Kaye Adams' How To Be 60 podcast, Shaun declared himself "married" to his profession, joking he was "happier" with that arrangement. He said: "Although I'm not married but I suppose I'm married to my career. Put it that way. I like that. I prefer that and I'm happier."

Explaining why he didn't have children, he said: "It was a conscious reason - when I was a young struggling barrister." He added: "I didn't think it would be right to bring up a child when you're trying to climb to the top of that greasy pole. And I've never regretted that decision. I've got 15 godchildren."
