Chapter 13: Sunderland's Newest Bookshop and Cafe

Chapter 13, a new bookshop and cafe in Sunderland city centre, has opened its doors, offering a cosy retreat for book lovers. The shop, created from a passion for books by former nurse Hayley Beckinsale, features warm colours, comfortable chairs, and a snug area for reading.

A Cosy Haven for Book Lovers

The shelves are stocked with a range of fiction, from horror to romance to contemporary fiction, alongside bookish merchandise such as tote bags, bookmarks, and candles. A dedicated fantasy corner, a whole room focused on fantasy and blind dates with books, is a standout feature.

Visitors can enjoy a selection of candles with scents based on genres, books, and characters, including one inspired by Cassian from ACOTAR. The Rainy Day Reading candle, with scents of amber, rain, and Eleni, is among the choices available.

Personal Favourites and Purchases

During a visit, a customer chose the Rainy Day Reading candle and two books: Madeline Miller's Song of Achilles and Binding 13 by Chloe Walsh, the first book in the Boys of Tommen series. The latter, a booktok sensation soon coming to TV, was a final decision to start the series.

The Off Campus series, a hit on Amazon's Prime, was tempting, but the first book about Garret and Hannah had already been purchased, so the rest of the series was left behind.

A Return Destination

The shop is set to be added to a list of bookshops to revisit during the National Year of Reading, with plans to return for more reading and treats like brownies and flapjack.
