Brockwell Lido in South London has been named Britain’s best lido, according to new research by the AA’s Lido League. The Art Deco pool in Brockwell Park scored 72.58 out of 100, based on factors including Google searches, average Google score, adult entry cost, and average July sunshine hours.
Top lidos across the UK
The study ranked 20 outdoor swimming spots. Brockwell Lido, built in 1937, is a Grade II listed site with a 50-metre unheated pool. It offers lane swimming and an open lane-free area, plus a pizza takeaway from 400 Rabbits. A 50-minute slot costs £9.50, and the lido is open year-round. It receives 49,500 monthly Google searches and 15,300 TikTok tags, with six hours of daily sunshine in July and free parking.
Second place went to Stoney Cove in Leicestershire, a deep-water quarry with a 1,000-metre perimeter, requiring strong swimming skills. It scored 67.18 with 14,800 monthly searches and six hours of sunshine.
London spots dominate top five
Tooting Bec Lido (third, 65.55) and London Fields Lido (fourth, 64.77) are also in London, each with six hours of sunshine. Fifth place went to Clevedon Marine Lake in Somerset (64.61), which offers paddleboarding and kayaking year-round.
Other notable entries include Bude Sea Pool in Cornwall (seventh, 63.59, seven hours of sunshine), Sale Water Park in Greater Manchester (eighth, 62.70, five hours), and Dancing Ledge in Dorset (ninth, 59.81, seven hours). The list also features Hampton Pool, Cheltenham Lido, and Jubilee Pool in Cornwall.
