A British family is trying to bring their mum home after she died following a short illness while on holiday in Benidorm. June Fetter passed away unexpectedly in September following a short but 'incredibly difficult' fight, her family said.
Family's tribute to a 'full of life' mum
June was known for her humour, vibrant personality and singing voice, her family said. Following her death, her daughter Hollie Fetter and the rest of the family launched a fundraiser to help cover mortuary fees.
Hollie said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we have to share the heartbreaking news that our beautiful mum, June Fetter, has sadly passed away unexpectedly in Benidorm, following a short but incredibly difficult fight.
"This has all happened so suddenly, and we are still struggling to come to terms with the fact that the woman who was always so full of life, happiness and laughter is no longer with us."
She added: "Mum was the most loving and devoted mum we could ever have asked for. She was caring, fun, bubbly and would genuinely do anything for anyone."
Fundraiser to bring June home to Scotland
The family is also raising funds to cover repatriation costs and funeral arrangements to bring June home from Benidorm to her home in Fife, Scotland. At the time of writing, it had raised £11,327 of a £14,000 target through 257 donations from members of the public.
Hollie said that making arrangements to bring her mum home to Scotland is a 'heartbreaking task'. Due to her passing away abroad, there are 'significant and completely unexpected costs' involved.
"We are currently being asked to provide money for mum to be transferred to the mortuary before we can continue with the arrangements to bring her home and give her the farewell she deserves," she said.
"None of us could ever have imagined having to face something like this, and we simply weren't prepared for the financial burden that comes with losing someone so unexpectedly abroad."
Final messages from her children
Hollie said: "We were able to make it across to Benidorm to be by mum's side in her final moments. We are so grateful that we were able to be there, hold her close and tell her how much we love her."
She added: "She had a way of bringing happiness wherever she went, and anyone who knew her will know just how much life she had in her. Mum was also a singer, and music was such a huge part of who she was. Her voice, her laughter and her infectious personality will stay with us forever."
June's daughter continued: "We will miss you more than words could ever say, mum. Keep singing up there. Your voice will always be with us." Her son Darren stated: "You were so loved by us all and many more. You were one in a billion. I will miss you everyday for the rest of my life. Keep singing up there sweetheart. I am absolutely heartbroken beyond measure."
The family thanked everyone who has supported them, saying: "Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has reached out, shared memories of mum and supported us through the most difficult time of our lives."
